Imagine working in the service industry without hearing your customers. This is the reality of Boniface Odhiambo. And over one percent of an estimated 7.7 billion of the world's population. Many hearing impaired individuals like Boniface are beyond capable of doing anything just as good and in instances even better than their unimpaired abled counterparts. One wonders why society still ostracises people with disabilities.
"Dead, blind, and disabled people suffer a lot because of employment. It is impossible for them to get work," Odhiambo said.
The lack of inclusivity in Kenya and in the African subcontinent emphasises society's inability to relate to those who are different. The lack of funding and support national infrastructures place on disability illustrates the perception abled people have of the impaired. The frustration of not being heard is universal. This is beyond all senses.
